Amazon.com Review
Looking right out of the Jetsons' household, Fein's Turbo II vacuum is one the most effective on the market. With features like automatic start and dust-sealed switches, it's specifically designed to work with shaping, routing, or sanding tools, which create a lot of dust. It's also as quiet as any shop vacuum we've heard, making it easier to use in close proximity to a project, or in an enclosed space, and its internal fabric boot helps keep dust to a minimum. The Turbo II has a 7.3-gallon solid capacity, a 6.8-gallon liquid capacity, and a 1,300-watt, 9-1/2 amp, two-stage motor. Its size and sturdy rollers make it very portable and easy to dump after being filled. Unlike some larger models, you'll still be able to lift and empty this vacuum by yourself. The body is solid plastic and will hold up well to wear. The shape of the vacuum makes it easy to move around a job site, there aren't any big handles or attachments sticking out (other then the hose) to get snagged when wheeling the vacuum around. Fein's Turbo II is very high-quality, very low-noise vacuum, well worth the investment for carpenters, woodworkers, and craftspeople.

From the Manufacturer
Clean shop and clean lungs, a great combination. Rated for continuous heavy-duty use, the powerful, two-stage motor offers bypass cooling. This means that even if the hose and filter become blocked, the motor will not be starved of critical cooling air. Plus, the vacuum starts or stops automatically when the power tool is switched on or off, and it can handle power tools with inputs of 40 to 2000 watts (.3 to 19 amps). It comes standard with a 16-foot long hose, fabric boot that keeps dust down to a minimal 5 microns, and has a db rating of 57.8 at 3.5 feet.

Quiet, But Not That Quiet, October 6, 2002

Great power. Long, flexible hose. Good mobility. Much less ear-splitting than my old Ridgid, but certaily not "whisper quiet." This machine just oozes quality from the thickness of the plastic to the fit and finish. I'm going to enjoy this for a long time!

One of the best vacuums I have seen!, June 28, 2002

I finally took the plunge and bought the Fein vacuum for my shop. I did a lot of research and tried out the Dewalt, Porter cable and an industrial Shop vac unit. The Fein seemed to be of the highest quality so after I narrowed my research I did some more work in justifying its purchase. Here are some points to all the people that would like to buy this unit:

1. The Fein is in my opinion the best made vacuum for the price. Comparisons with competitive units showed the Fein to be the best made in the bunch. The looks, fit and finish and "feel" of the unit give out only one thing: QUALITY!

2. Despite what some Doom-sayers say about the Fein I managed to use my old Shopvac's hose on the unit! It fit right in without any trouble or modification whatsoever. I do not own a Sears vacuum so I do not know about them. The fit is tight but it DOES fit and you can use ALL your old Shopvac accesories with it! The opening on the Fein is just about 2.5" and it also accepted the hose that I use for my Dewalt tablesaw (2.5"). Again, The hose fit is snag but it fits and it stays in place beautifully. I could even pull the unit by the hose and it did not come loose.

3. My side to side noise level comparison with the old shop vac was a NO contest! The Fein is many times quieter and it does not have that high level sqeal of the old Shopvac! I do not understand the other reviewer that did not find a big difference! The difference in sound level between the two units is HUGE! You can talk with a friend while the Fein is running!

4. Suction! Does this unit SUCK! You can hear the air noise entering the old shop vac hose like a hurricane! The Fein is much more powerful that my old shop vac and it seemed to be at least as powerfull as the rest of the competitive units. The static pressure and the air volume of the of the unit's suction are incredible!

5. Someone else complaint about no place to wrap the cord? Maybe he was talking about a diferent unit! The ONLY thing you have to do is to remove a rubber insert which comes in the way of cord when you rap it around the unit's groove. Here I DO have a complaint that the power cord does not have this fitting that you can attach the plug onto the cord so it stays in place when wrapped around the vacuum. A minor quible but an important one for a unit of this price level.

I considered buying the wet/dry accesory package but I don think they are worth it! The plastic they are made from seems too brittle and I do not think they would stand heavy usage. The cost is ridiculous! I totally agree with other reviewers that this package should come with the vacuum for FREE!

For anyone looking for a new vacuum that is quiet, looks great, is of the highest manufacturing quality and it has power to spare DO NOT buy anything else before giving this unit the look it deserves. The price is a bit steep but as they say: You only get what you pay for!

Good vac, short on accessories, May 5, 2002

I always wanted a Fein vac and finally coughed up the money for one. I have to admit it is very quiet, very powerful and very versatile. It comes with a very long power cord, vacuum hose, flexible rubber adapter sleeve, large cloth dust filter, and an auto on/off socket that will handle power tools up to 16 amps.

On the other hand, if you want your shop vac to pick up something special (like shop sawdust) Fein recommends buying an additional pleated filter [price], paper prefilters [price], and mounting brackets [price]. In addition, if you plan to actually use the vacuum to sweep the floor and dust some equipment, you have to shell out another $70 for wands and tools. All in all, it s great vac, and the tools are good quality, but a buyer should plan on spending an additional [price] to make the vac really useful.

Great Shop Vac for all your needs, May 3, 2002

The Fein turbo II works as well as the WAP drywaller 2, for less money. Only complaint is that it needs attachment kit, filter kit and bags to be really effective. These items push the cost up toward the WAP(now Alto) that comes with these items. .... Still a good value, but I would prefer to be able to buy it as a package instead of waiting for 5 seperate shipments. All in all a great tool, one that gets more use than just about anything else in the truck.

I already own a Milwaukee #8925 stainless steel vacuum but I purchased the Fein only because of it's auto turn on feature. However, once I started using it, because it is so small and convenient, I find I'm now using it for just about all of my shop needs. Granted, it will not suck the floor tile off of the floor like the Milwaukee, but it's 1/3 the size, 1/4 the weight and 1/5 the price. I'm very impressed with it's performance.

Deceptively powerful, February 27, 2002

When I first plugged it in and turned it on, I was afraid that it was too quiet to be powerful. Little did I know that this vacuum cleaner was what I had wanted all my life. My wife is wanting a carpet attachment for it now. The only concern I had was getting attachments. However, with Amazon and other places selling the Fein's, getting the attachments is no longer an issue. I was a bit afraid of spending this much on a shop vac, but am comfortable now with even hooking it up to my Dewalt 621 router on its collection port. The HEPA filter attachment is also great when doing indoor work with drywall or any dusty environment, also for cleaning ceiling fans.

Outstanding vacuum cleaner. The base price contains no additional attachments, but you do get a "ready to roll" high powered cleaner.

I've been using this vacuum for about three months now -- it's a solid, powerful, and quiet unit that is much better than any of the previous wet/dry vacuums I have owned. My one complaint is that it doesn't come with much in the way of accessories (e.g., brush nozzles, etc.) and since the hose size is a bit odd, none of the attachements you can buy at your local hardware store will fit. In the end, I had to shell out ... to buy attachments that (in my view) should have come with the unit in the first place.

This is a MUCH better vacuum than my Craftsman 6.25 "Hp" vacuum. They seem to have about the same amount of suction through a two inch hose. The Fein is MUCH quieter. Using a Radio Shack sound meter, I measured 64 dB from the Fein and a whopping 95 dB from the Craftsman (both at about 5 feet). It is easy to hold a normal conversation when the Fein is running. You definately need hearing protection when the Sears is on. Although the Fein supplied hose is very nice, the small bore greatly reduces the vacuum. I just stuck a 2" hose into the Fein inlet which works fine. Dumping the Fein cannister is also no problem. I'm not sure why the person several reviews earlier thought that was difficult.

Quiet shop vac, June 20, 2001
Reviewer: elehr from Glen Allen, VA USA
I bought this unit for the following features:
1) Decibel level. This tool shop vac is quiet. 56 DB. 2) Tool activated switch has the highest amp rating in its class. 15 amp, so I can even attach my table saw to it.

It is everything I expected and I am very satisfied with the choice.
