Amazon.com Review
The DeWalt DW621K is the best plunge router in its class. So say the editors of two leading woodworking magazines, Popular Woodworking and American Woodworker. And why not? It's the first professional-grade plunge router with built-in dust collection. It runs quietly but efficiently on a powerful 9 amp, 2-horsepower motor. Its plunging action is smooth. It maintains variable speeds of 8,000 to 24,000 rpm. Its controls are easy to work. It's mountable. It has a safety lock on its on/off switch for added protection. And the list goes on. Now, whether such features qualify the DW621K as the best is a matter of debate, but one thing is certain: this workhorse of a router is going to carry its weight in virtually any shop or garage.

From the Manufacturer
Built in dust collection makes this router unique. DeWalt's DW621 router is the first professional router to include a built-in dust collection - not an expensive, clumsy add-on. And it works. In addition, the DW621 has a powerful, 2 HP motor to handle the most challenging cuts. The electronic variable speed provides constant feedback so the motor won't slow down in heavy cuts. The rack-and-pinion height adjustment makes your depth adjustment quick and accurate. It includes 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch collets, a vacuum adapter, a universal edge guide with dust collection and fine fence adjuster for precision positioning of the parallel fence, a template guide bushing adapter which accepts universal guide bearings (1-3/16-inches), a wrench for changing bits, and a heavy duty carrying case with storage space for 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch bits, collet, wrench, edge guide and guide rods.

I found this router worked well. However the Hitichi M12v 3-1/4hp. Super duty Electronic varriable speed 1/2" plung. A much better value. With alot more accessories and power for thoes large router bits. You compair I am sure you will agree. By the way I really like DEWALT tools,I have alot of them But some times there not the best.

Great router!, April 25, 2002

I looked high and low to get the right power out of a router that wasn't too heavy. Considering it's a plunge router with 2 HP, I think this router feels perfect during use. The dust chute is very effective when used with a vacuum. The universal template attachment for the baseplate is very handy too for dovetailing and such. After shopping for nearly four months for the right tool, I would enthusiastically recommend this router for virtually any job you could throw at it.

A good router that keeps getting better, March 21, 2002

I recently purchased the DW621 to replace a two year old DW621 that was stolen. I use the DW621 as a hand-held router

Lo and behold, the new router is different. The plunge springs are softer making it easier to control during plunge cuts.

The switch has been redesigned with a more positive lock. With the older router, it was too easy to bump the switch off.

The plastic chip guard has been redesigned and is much more effective.

The bushing holder is easier to install and fits better.

Both routers have variable speed and soft start. The balance point of the router is to the left of the bit making it less 'tippy'. The motor is quiet and smooth. The power is deceptive.

I replaced the stolen DW621 with a new DW621 because out of all the tools in my shop, the Dewalt feels the best in my hands.

Good Visability and excellent Dust Shoot, February 11, 2002

I have found the DW 621 easy to use and quick to set debth of plunge. It is easy to see what you are doing and the dust shoot really helps. The Plung spring is a little week and the trigger takes some getting use to, other wise it represnts good value and it should enjoy the durability of my other Dewealt tools.
